Zachary Quinto is an actor known for playing Spock in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot films and the villain Sylar on Heroes. He came out as gay in October 2011 in a New York magazine profile, prompted by the widely covered suicide of gay teenager Jamey Rodemeyer and Quinto's own involvement in the It Gets Better Project. His statement β "as a gay man, I look at that and it breaks my heart" β was received with widespread praise. He was previously in a relationship with actor Jonathan Groff. Quinto has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and has taken on roles in queer-themed productions including HBO's Angels in America (2018).
