Zachary Quinto is an actor known for playing Spock in J.J. Abrams's Star Trek reboot films and the villain Sylar on Heroes (2006). He came out as gay in an October 2011 New York magazine profile, saying that after the widely covered suicide of bisexual teenager Jamey Rodemeyer, he had come to believe that "living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality." His statement was received with widespread praise. He publicly confirmed dating actor Jonathan Groff in September 2012, telling Out magazine "I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky"; the two split in 2013 after roughly a year together. Quinto has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and has taken on roles in queer-themed productions including HBO's Angels in America (2018).
