St. Vincent is an American musician, songwriter, and filmmaker — born Annie Clark — whose genre-bending art rock has made her one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation, with six Grammy Awards including three for Best Alternative Music Album. She first spoke publicly about her queerness in 2014, telling Rolling Stone, "I believe in gender fluidity and sexual fluidity," and has more recently described herself as queer; her high-profile relationships with actresses including Kristen Stewart and Cara Delevingne made her a fixture of queer pop culture, and while accepting a Grammy in 2025 she thanked her wife and daughter. Her film work includes directing "The Birthday Party" segment of the all-female horror anthology XX (2017) and co-writing and starring in The Nowhere Inn (2021), a surreal mockumentary made with Carrie Brownstein that plays with her stage persona and includes a queer relationship storyline. Across music, film, and performance, St. Vincent's shape-shifting explorations of gender, power, and desire have made her an enduring queer icon.
