Matthew Wilkas is an openly gay American actor and playwright known for Gayby (2012), the independent queer comedy in which a lesbian and her gay best friend decide to have a baby together the old-fashioned way, and for his recurring role as Holt's husband David on Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013). On Broadway, he was a replacement cast member in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, performing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man among other roles. From November 2015 to July 2019, Wilkas was in a relationship with Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy; at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, the two shared a kiss broadcast live on television before Kenworthy's qualifying run, a moment widely celebrated as a milestone for LGBTQ+ visibility in sports. Wilkas has since been in a relationship with Broadway actor John Riddle since 2021.
