Laurie Colbert is a lesbian Canadian film director, producer, and screenwriter who works primarily in collaboration with her creative partner, Dominique Cardona. Their short film Below the Belt (1999) was a Genie Award nominee for Best Live Action Short Drama, and their feature Margarita (2012) won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at Toronto's Inside Out Film and Video Festival. The pair also made the documentary shorts Thank God I'm a Lesbian (1992) and My Feminism (1997), and the features Finn's Girl (2007) — which Colbert co-conceived and wrote — and Catch and Release (2018). Colbert has worked in Canadian queer independent cinema for over two decades, building a body of work that consistently centers lesbian and queer women's lives and relationships.
