Lance Bass is an American singer, actor, and television personality best known as a member of the pop group NSYNC. In 2002, he trained for months as a cosmonaut at Star City, Russia, intending to become the first celebrity in space aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, before losing his $20 million seat weeks before launch when the documentary financing the trip fell through. He came out as gay in a July 2006 People* cover story, one of the most prominent coming-out stories in pop music that year, and spoke about the years of hiding his identity while in one of the world's most famous boy bands. He began dating painter and actor Michael Turchin in January 2011, got engaged in September 2013, and married him on December 20, 2014, in a wedding televised as the first same-sex ceremony broadcast on a major TV network. He has since hosted the SiriusXM show Dirty Pop with Lance Bass and the space-history podcast The Last Soviet, and been an advocate for LGBTQ+ youth.
