Cherry Jones is an American actress considered one of the great stage actors of her generation, a two-time Tony Award winner for The Heiress (1995) and Doubt (2005). On screen she won Primetime Emmy Awards for playing President Allison Taylor on 24 (2001) and for a guest role on The Handmaid's Tale (2017), and her queer-relevant work includes playing a lesbian professor on Transparent (2014) and appearing in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021), alongside roles in Succession (2018) and many other films and series. She has been openly lesbian throughout her adult life, living and working out for decades in the theater community at a time when few major actresses did. She was in a long-term relationship with actress Sarah Paulson from 2004 to 2009, married filmmaker Sophie Huber in 2015, and has spoken movingly about the joy and freedom of living an open life.
