Bowen Yang is a gay comedian and actor who became the first featured player to be promoted to repertory status in the same season on "Saturday Night Live" (2019–present). His arrival helped usher in a new era of queer sensibility on the long-running sketch institution, with characters and impressions that draw on gay culture, camp, and Asian American experience. Yang, who is openly gay and has spoken candidly about growing up gay and Chinese American, co-hosts the popular culture podcast "Las Culturistas" with Matt Rogers — a show beloved in queer communities for its unapologetically gay perspective on film, music, and celebrity. In 2022 he starred alongside Joel Kim Booster in the Hulu romantic comedy "Fire Island," a gay retelling of "Pride and Prejudice" that became one of the most celebrated queer comedies in recent memory. He has also appeared in the films "Bottoms" (2023) and "The Lost City," and remains one of SNL's most beloved and culturally significant cast members.
