Wanda Sykes is an Emmy Award-winning comedian and actress known for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000), and black-ish (2014). She married French-born Alex Niedbalski in October 2008 and came out simultaneously as both gay and married the following month at a marriage equality rally in Las Vegas -- days after California's Proposition 8 banned same-sex marriage -- declaring "I'm proud to be a woman. I'm proud to be a Black woman. And I'm proud to be gay." She and Alex had fraternal twins, Olivia Lou and Lucas Claude, in April 2009. Sykes was previously married to record producer Dave Hall from 1991 to 1998. Her coming out was spontaneous, bold, and immediately celebrated, and she has spoken freely about her life as a Black lesbian woman in public life ever since.
