Wanda Sykes is an Emmy Award-winning comedian and actress known for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Black-ish. She came out simultaneously as both gay and married at a marriage equality rally in Las Vegas in November 2008 β days after California's Proposition 8 banned same-sex marriage β declaring "I'm proud to be a woman. I'm proud to be a Black woman. And I'm proud to be gay." She and her French wife Alex Sykes have twins together. Sykes was previously married to record producer Dave Hall. Her coming out was spontaneous, bold, and immediately celebrated, and she has spoken freely about her life as a Black lesbian woman in public life ever since.
