Tig Notaro

Tig Notaro is an openly lesbian American stand-up comedian, writer, and actress known for one of the most celebrated sets in comedy history: her August 2012 live show at Largo in Los Angeles, in which she opened by saying "Hello. I have cancer" -- delivered four days after her diagnosis, following months in which she had also lost her mother, ended a relationship, and contracted a near-fatal bacterial infection. Louis C.K. released the recording as a download; it sold over 100,000 copies in days and earned a Grammy nomination, making Notaro a household name. She married actress Stephanie Allynne in 2015 and the couple have twin sons. She created and starred in One Mississippi (2015), a semi-autobiographical drama about grief and queer identity in Mississippi, and played Commander Jett Reno, the USS Discovery's acid-tongued chief engineer, on Star Trek: Discovery (2019); Notaro herself suggested the nickname "Jett," a tribute to Joan Jett, after the character was originally written as "Denise." She has won two Grammy Awards for her comedy albums.
