Stephanie Beatriz is an Argentine-American actress best known as the stoic, intense Detective Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox/NBC, 2013–2021). On National Coming Out Day 2016, she came out as bisexual in a tweet, simply and powerfully. The show subsequently created a celebrated two-episode arc (season five, 2018) in which Rosa comes out as bisexual to her family, drawing directly on Beatriz's own experiences of coming out to conservative parents. In 2018 she married writer Brad Hoss, prompting important conversations about the visibility of bisexual people in opposite-sex relationships. She also voiced the lead in Disney/Pixar's Encanto (2021). Beatriz has been a consistent, articulate voice pushing back against biphobia within both straight and LGBTQ+ communities.
