Russell Tovey is an openly gay British actor who began performing at 11 and gained early recognition in The History Boys, both on stage at the National Theatre and Broadway and in the 2006 film adaptation. He is known for Being Human (2008), in which he played the werewolf George, Looking (2014) as Patrick, and other BBC dramas including Him & Her and Years and Years, alongside extensive stage work including Angels in America and A View from the Bridge on Broadway. He came out publicly as gay in 2010 and has been open about his identity throughout his career. He has spoken in interviews about his father telling him to "butch up" as a child and about the lasting effect that had on his relationship with his own masculinity and queerness. An avid contemporary art collector since buying his first Tracey Emin print at 21, he co-hosts the art-world podcast Talk Art with gallerist Robert Diament.
