Ruby Rose is a lesbian and genderfluid Australian actress, model, DJ, and television presenter who came out as a lesbian and genderfluid as a teenager -- an early and formative act of public self-declaration that shaped both her personal life and the trajectory of her career. Rose became a global figure in LGBTQ+ communities following her breakout as Stella Carlin, a swaggering, androgynous prisoner whose arrival on Orange Is the New Black Season 3 (2015) generated enormous cultural attention. She went on to play the superhero Batwoman in the CW's Batwoman (2019) -- the first queer woman to headline a DC television series -- before departing after one season; Rose said she left following a serious on-set injury during stunt work that herniated two discs in her spine, and later described the production as a toxic work environment during her recovery. Her other film credits include John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), and The Meg (2018). Rose has been a consistent advocate for genderfluid and nonbinary visibility and remains a prominent figure in global LGBTQ+ culture.
