Rory O'Malley is an openly gay American actor best known for originating the role of Elder McKinley β the relentlessly repressed, secretly gay Mormon missionary who leads the song "Turn It Off" β in The Book of Mormon on Broadway (2011). The role allowed O'Malley to bring campy, heartbreaking gay self-suppression to one of the most celebrated Broadway musicals in decades. He co-founded Broadway Impact, an organization that mobilized the Broadway community for marriage equality during the 2009β2012 legislative battles in New York. He has appeared in Hamilton and various other stage and screen projects.
