Robbie Rogers is an openly gay former American professional soccer player who became a television and film producer. In February 2013, he announced both his retirement and his sexuality in a blog post, writing, "I'm a soccer player, I'm Christian, and I'm gay," and explaining that the pressure of hiding his identity had become unsustainable. Months later, he reversed his retirement to sign with the LA Galaxy, becoming the first openly gay man to play in a top North American men's professional sports league. A recurring ankle injury forced his second and final retirement from soccer in 2017, the same year he married writer-director Greg Berlanti. Rogers subsequently built a career as an entertainment producer, with executive producer credits on the Showtime miniseries Fellow Travelers (2023) and Amazon's My Policeman (2022), and as a producer on the CW series All American (2018), which features a central lesbian couple, Coop and Patience.
