Rhys Ernst is a transgender American filmmaker and producer who was a co-producer and directed multiple episodes of Transparent (2014), also creating the show's title sequence and earning a 2015 Emmy nomination for the web series Transparent: This Is Me. His short films The Thing (2011) and She Gone Rogue (2012) screened at Sundance, the Whitney Biennial, and the Hammer Museum, and he created the documentary series We've Been Around (2016) with Focus Features, profiling historical trans figures. His debut narrative feature, Adam (2019), produced by James Schamus and starring Margaret Qualley, premiered at Sundance and won awards at Outfest and the Oslo Fusion Film Festival. Ernst has won two Special Recognition GLAAD Media Awards and has spoken about the importance of trans people occupying creative positions -- not just appearing on screen -- in order to shape the stories that get told about trans lives.
