Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris is a Tony Award-winning actor and entertainer best known as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother (2005) and as the teenage title character of Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989). On Broadway, he played the Emcee in Cabaret (2003) and the Balladeer in the debut production of Sondheim's Assassins (2004), before winning the Tony, Drama Desk, and Drama League Awards for Best Actor in a Musical for the title role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2014), about a transgender rock musician. He came out as gay in November 2006 in a People magazine statement, prompted by tabloid speculation. Harris married actor David Burtka -- his partner since 2004 -- in 2014, and the couple have twins via surrogate born in 2010. He has hosted the Tony Awards four times and has won five Primetime Emmy Awards. Harris is widely regarded as one of the most prominent gay men in mainstream American entertainment.
