Nathan Lane is a Tony Award-winning actor beloved for The Producers (stage and film), The Birdcage (1996), and Angels in America (HBO, 2003). He came out publicly as gay in 1999 in a wide-ranging interview with journalist Michelangelo Signorile after years of deflecting questions; he has said the death of his partner from AIDS-related illness helped prompt his openness. Lane married producer Devlin Elliott in November 2015 after the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York. He received a Tony nomination for Gary (2019) and has been a cherished figure in the LGBTQ+ community through his many queer-themed stage and screen roles.
