Sir Michael Redgrave was a British actor of enormous distinction, known for The Lady Vanishes (1938), The Browning Version (1951), The Importance of Being Earnest (1952), and Mourning Becomes Electra (1947). He was bisexual and in a 47-year marriage to actress Rachel Kempson while maintaining relationships with men, including a decades-long partnership with Bob Michell. His bisexuality was known within the theater world and has been discussed by his children, including actresses Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave. He received a knighthood in 1959.
