Matthew Risch is an openly gay American actor and dancer who made his Broadway debut in the long-running revival of Chicago, spending two years in the company at the Ambassador Theatre, and went on to originate roles in Legally Blonde and Other Desert Cities and to star as Joey Evans in a revival of Pal Joey. He is also known for stage and screen work including The Boys in the Band (both the 2018 Broadway revival and the 2020 Netflix film adaptation), as well as television roles in Modern Family (2009), How to Get Away with Murder (2014), Looking (2014), and Transparent (2014). He has been part of the generation of openly gay actors bringing queer theatrical history -- including The Boys in the Band, the landmark 1968 gay play -- back to contemporary audiences, and has spoken about the particular casting challenges he has faced as an out actor.
