Marlon Brando is widely considered one of the greatest actors in film history, known for A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), The Godfather (1972), Last Tango in Paris (1972), and Apocalypse Now (1979). He famously boycotted the 1973 Oscars, sending Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather to decline his Best Actor award for The Godfather in protest of Hollywood's treatment of Native Americans, part of a broader lifelong commitment to civil rights, Native American rights, and other causes. His bisexuality was discussed candidly in his autobiography Songs My Mother Taught Me (1994) and in numerous biographical accounts; he acknowledged sexual relationships with men and women. His close relationship with actor Wally Cox spanned decades and was described by Cox's widow as romantic. Brando's sexuality was understood among his peers for decades before his own admissions, and he is recognized as one of the most prominent bisexual figures in Hollywood history.
