Maria Bello is an American actress known for A History of Violence (2005), The Cooler (2003), ER (1994), and NCIS (2003). She came out in a November 2013 New York Times essay titled "Coming Out as a Modern Family," in which she described her relationship with her close female friend Clare Munn in a way that resisted labels but acknowledged the relationship as romantic and meaningful; the essay was celebrated for its thoughtful, non-prescriptive approach to sexual identity at a time when "coming out" was still assumed to require a definitive label. Bello and Munn later separated in 2015. In 2024, Bello married chef Dominique Crenn in a ceremony in Mexico, following their December 2019 engagement.
