Magda Szubanski

Magda Szubanski is an Australian actress and comedian best known as Sharon Strzelecki in Kath & Kim (2002) and for Babe (1995). She came out as lesbian in a 2012 interview on Australian breakfast television, becoming one of the most beloved Australian public figures to come out. She was a vocal and prominent campaigner in Australia's 2017 marriage equality postal survey, delivering an emotional speech about what equality meant to her. Her 2015 memoir Reckoning, which won that year's Australian Book Industry Award for Book of the Year, explored her identity and her Polish Catholic heritage through the story of her father Zbigniew, who at nineteen was recruited into a secret Polish resistance execution squad tasked with assassinating collaborators betraying Jewish citizens to the Nazis.
