Luke Macfarlane is a Canadian actor known for Brothers & Sisters (2007), in which he played Scotty Wandell -- the partner and later husband of Matthew Rhys's Kevin Walker in one of the first gay marriages on a US network drama -- and for some dozen Hallmark films including Christmas Land (2015), The Mistletoe Promise (2016), and A Valentine's Match (2020). He came out as gay in an April 2008 interview with The Globe and Mail, timed to an episode centered on Scotty and Kevin's wedding, becoming one of the first Canadian actors in a major US network drama to come out while on the show. He went on to co-star in the studio gay rom-com Bros (2022), after reportedly being told earlier in his career by an agent that a gay actor "can't" play Superman. He has spoken about the importance of Hallmark's LGBTQ+-inclusive films and about being an openly gay leading man in romantic films.
