Liv Hewson is a nonbinary Australian actor who came out as nonbinary in their teens and has used they/them pronouns publicly throughout their acting career. They have been a vocal advocate for nonbinary representation in Hollywood, speaking with particular clarity and force about the structural invisibility of nonbinary people in an industry built on binary gender categories. In 2022, Hewson made headlines when they publicly withdrew their name from Emmy Award consideration for their work in "Yellowjackets," writing that the gendered categories meant "there's no space for me" — an act that sparked significant industry conversation about reform to acting award categories. Hewson plays Van Palmer in "Yellowjackets" (2021–present), the post-apocalyptic survival drama about a women's soccer team stranded in the wilderness; Van's arc includes a tender coming-out story that has resonated deeply with queer audiences. They previously starred in Netflix's "Santa Clarita Diet" (2017–2019) alongside Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Hewson's candor about both their identity and the systemic barriers they face has made them one of the most important nonbinary voices in contemporary entertainment.
