Kelly McGillis

Kelly McGillis is an American actress trained at the Juilliard School, where she graduated in 1983, the same year she made her film debut in Reuben, Reuben. She earned Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for her breakout role as an Amish mother in Witness (1985), and went on to star in Top Gun (1986) and The Accused (1988). She came out as a lesbian in a 2009 interview on the SheWired web series Girl Rock, saying she was looking for a woman and was "done with the man thing" after two divorces from men and decades of hiding her sexuality. In 2010, she entered a civil union with Melanie Leis, a sales executive she had met a decade earlier when Leis tended bar at a Key West restaurant McGillis owned with her then-husband. McGillis has since largely stepped back from film work, performing for years with the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., and teaching acting at the New York Studio for Stage and Screen.
