Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor is a British-Nigerian lesbian film producer known for Blue Story (2019), Rapman's acclaimed drama about two friends divided by rival London gangs, and for Rye Lane (2023), a critically celebrated British romantic comedy set in Peckham that was praised for its fresh, joyful portrayal of young Black British life. Her work on Blue Story earned her a BIFA Breakthrough Producer nomination in 2019 and a BFI Vision Award in 2020. She has been open about her lesbianism and has spoken about the importance of diversity behind the camera in British film, both in terms of race and sexual identity. In 2025 she made her directorial debut with Dreamers, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
