Joel Grey

Joel Grey is an American actor best known for originating the role of the Emcee in Cabaret -- first on Broadway in 1966, for which he won a Tony Award, and then in the 1972 film adaptation, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He came out as gay in 2015 at age 82, in a People magazine interview in which he said, "I don't like labels, but if you have to put one on it, I'm a gay man." Grey has also appeared in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985), earning a Golden Globe nomination, and more recently in a cameo in Tick, Tick... Boom! (2021) and as the recurring Morgan Bote in the drama series The Old Man (2022). In 2023, he received a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award. His coming out at 82 made him one of the oldest high-profile performers to publicly come out.
