Jim J. Bullock is an American actor and comedian best known for the sitcom Too Close for Comfort (1980) and years of appearances on Hollywood Squares. In 1990, after years of concealment driven by fear for his career, he publicly identified as gay in an unplanned, emotional disclosure on The Joan Rivers Show. Bullock had been diagnosed HIV-positive in 1985 but did not disclose his status publicly until 1996, making him one of the more visible entertainment figures to speak openly about surviving HIV in the years following the height of the AIDS epidemic. He has since written and spoken extensively about his survival on antiretroviral treatment, his Christian faith, and his advocacy for HIV awareness, describing his long silence and eventual openness as defining chapters of his life.
