Jasmin Savoy Brown is a lesbian actress who came out publicly in a 2019 interview with Out magazine, saying: "Me being comfortable in my skin as a biracial, queer woman, being happy in my life — that's the most important thing." She has spoken about the intersection of her Black and biracial identity with her queerness, and about finding community and support in LGBTQ+ spaces. Brown gained wide recognition for her performance as young Taissa in the first season of Showtime's "Yellowjackets" (2021–present) — a role in which a teenage queer girl's crisis of faith and violence is rendered with startling intensity. She went on to appear in the "Scream" franchise reboot films (2022, 2023), playing Mindy Meeks-Martin, an openly queer character whose knowledge of horror film tropes serves as meta-commentary on the genre. Brown has spoken about the importance of playing queer characters who are fully realized and whose sexuality is incidental rather than defining, and about her own joy in being a visible lesbian actress in mainstream genre entertainment.
