Jane Lynch is an Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian who has been openly lesbian throughout her career, coming up through the Chicago improv scene and Los Angeles comedy world where she was always out. She is best known as the fearsomely sharp-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Glee (Fox, 2009β2015) β a role that earned her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award β and for her acclaimed mockumentary work in Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), and For Your Consideration (2006). She was married to psychologist Lara Embry from 2010 to 2014. Lynch has spoken extensively about her decades of sobriety and its connection to her identity, and she hosted the Tony Awards in 2022. She is one of the most naturally, easily, and joyfully out actors in Hollywood.
