Hunter Schafer is a transgender actress, model, and activist who first gained national prominence as a teen activist challenging North Carolina's HB2 "bathroom bill" β a lawsuit plaintiff whose fight for trans rights preceded her entertainment career. She transitioned in her teens and went on to become a model before being cast as Jules Vaughn in HBO's "Euphoria" (2019β2022), a trans girl navigating first love, addiction, and identity in an unflinching portrait of contemporary adolescence. Her performance opposite Zendaya β achingly real, physically and emotionally exposed β brought a depth to trans female experience rarely seen on prestige television. She co-wrote the "Euphoria" special episode "F*ck Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob" (2021), which depicted Jules's inner life with startling intimacy. Schafer subsequently appeared in "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" (2023) and has continued modeling for major fashion houses. She has spoken about the relationship between her trans identity and her art, describing performance as a space where gender fluidity is possible in ways the world outside doesn't always allow.
