Harry Andrews was a British character actor known for his imposing physical presence and dozens of roles in British films and television, including The Hill (1965), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), and The Ruling Class (1972). He was gay and lived for many years with actor Basil Hoskins, though like most of his generation he never came out publicly. His homosexuality has been discussed in subsequent biographies and by contemporaries who knew him. Andrews is one of many British actors of the mid-20th century whose queerness was known within the profession but concealed from the public.
