Elliot Fletcher is an American transgender actor who has built one of television's most consistent records of trans representation, playing young trans men across a string of prominent series: Trevor, a caseworker for homeless LGBTQ+ youth, on Shameless (2011); Aaron, a law student, on The Fosters (2013); Noah on Faking It (2014); Max on Marvel's Runaways (2017); and, as a series regular, Sam Jordan — one of the only trans men left alive in a world where everyone with a Y chromosome has died — on Y: The Last Man (2021). Fletcher came out as transgender shortly after his 17th birthday while a senior at an all-girls Catholic high school, becoming its first openly transgender graduate before pursuing acting professionally. He has spoken about the pressures particular to being one of few working trans actors, including being repeatedly cast in roles built around gender-identity disclosure, and has said his goal is to portray a range of trans experiences rather than a single "caricature." In 2017, Fletcher joined other transgender performers, GLAAD, and writer Jen Richards in an open letter to Hollywood calling for more, and better-written, transgender roles.
