Denholm Elliott was a British actor celebrated for decades of work in film and television, including roles in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Trading Places (1983), A Room with a View (1985), and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). In his autobiography, Quest for Love (1994, published posthumously), his wife Susan Robinson wrote candidly about his bisexuality, his relationships with men, and his HIV-positive status β he died of AIDS-related tuberculosis in 1992. Elliott was one of the most admired character actors of his generation and one of the rare mid-century British stars whose queerness was documented with sympathy and honesty.
