David Ogden Stiers

David Ogden Stiers was an American actor and conductor best known for playing the pompous, cultured Major Charles Winchester III on MASH (1972) for six seasons, joining in 1977, and for voice roles in numerous Disney animated films including Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Pocahontas* (1995). He came out as gay in a 2009 interview, saying he wished he had come out sooner and that he had feared it would hurt a voice-acting career built substantially on Disney and family programming. Stiers was warmly received when he came out and spent his final years as a conductor of the Newport Symphony Orchestra and an advocate for LGBTQ+ equality.
