Dan Levy is a gay Canadian writer, actor, and director who has been publicly gay throughout his career. He spoke matter-of-factly about being gay in a 2015 interview and has since become one of the most influential queer creators in contemporary television. Levy co-created and starred in "Schitt's Creek" (2015β2020) alongside his father Eugene Levy, playing David Rose β a pansexual man from a wealthy family who learns to love and be loved after his world collapses. The series, which Levy wrote and directed extensively, became a global phenomenon celebrated for its wholly positive, normalizing portrayal of queer identity: there is no coming-out crisis, no homophobia, no tragedy β just the full, complicated humanity of a queer man finding his place. David's wedding to Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid) in the series finale became one of the most watched and emotionally overwhelming television moments of the decade. Levy has spoken about the intentionality behind that creative choice β a conscious rejection of the narrative that queer stories must be defined by suffering. He went on to write and direct the Netflix film "Good Grief" (2024) and starred in Season 4 of "Sex Education."
