Cynthia Nixon is an American actress best known as Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City (1998) and its revival And Just Like That... (2021), in which Miranda's later-in-life queer awakening echoed Nixon's own path. She has won two Tony Awards, for Rabbit Hole (2006) and The Little Foxes (2017), along with Emmy Awards for her television work, which also includes the queer role of Gwendolyn Briggs on Ratched (2020). Nixon began her relationship with education activist Christine Marinoni in 2004, married her in 2012, and the couple have a son; she is also the proud mother of a transgender son and has spoken publicly in support of trans rights. In 2018 she ran as the progressive Democratic candidate for Governor of New York, centering LGBTQ+ equality, and she has been open about loving both men and women, describing her sexuality on her own terms and pushing back against media attempts to narrowly label her identity.
