Colman Domingo is a gay actor, playwright, and director who has been openly gay throughout his career β one of a small number of openly gay Black men to achieve leading-man status in Hollywood. Born in Philadelphia, Domingo built his career first in theater, winning a Tony Award for the revival of "The Scottsboro Boys" (2011). On screen he is known for the morally complex villain Victor Strand in AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" (2015β2023), Ali Hassan on "Euphoria," and the villainous Scorponok in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts." His queer artistry found its fullest expression in the biographical film "Rustin" (2023), in which he played civil rights leader Bayard Rustin β a gay Black man whose sexuality was weaponized to sideline him from the movement he helped build. Domingo's performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and he spoke extensively in press about the importance of honoring Rustin's full humanity, including his queerness. Domingo is married to filmmaker Raul Domingo and has spoken about his marriage as a source of profound joy and creative sustenance.
