Chaz Bono is an American musician, writer, and actor β and the child of Cher and Sonny Bono β who came out as lesbian in 1995 and then came out as a transgender man in 2008, completing his transition by 2010. His transition was documented in the film Becoming Chaz (2011), which aired on OWN and won a Peabody Award. He appeared as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars in 2011, drawing significant public attention and both support and controversy. Bono has written three books about his identity and transition, including Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man (2011), and has been a prominent advocate for transgender rights, serving as spokesperson for GLAAD.
