Carl Clemons-Hopkins is a nonbinary, queer American actor best known for playing Marcus, Deborah Vance's chief operating officer, on Hacks (2021), a performance that made them the first openly nonbinary performer nominated for a Primetime Emmy in an acting category. They publicly came out as nonbinary and queer in 2021, sharing that they use they/them and he/him pronouns and emphasizing the importance of expansive gender expression and visibility for Black trans and nonbinary people. Clemons-Hopkins built a strong stage career in Chicago theater before recurring television roles on Chicago Med (2015) and The Chi (2018), and their queer-relevant screen work also includes the horror film Candyman (2021), which features a gay couple in its ensemble. They continue to advocate for intersectional representation, using their platform to uplift trans, nonbinary, and queer communities in Hollywood.
