Brad Takei is a gay American producer and actor who married George Takei in 2008, becoming one of the first same-sex couples to wed in California after the state's brief legal window for marriage equality, and later legally adopted his husband's surname. Long George Takei's manager as well as his spouse, Brad has appeared alongside him in a series of documentary shorts chronicling their relationship, including George & Brad in Bed (2009), an homage to John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "bed-in" protests, and its follow-up, George & Brad Live Long and Prosper (2013), directed by Jessica Sanders. He also appears throughout To Be Takei (2014), Jennifer M. Kroot's documentary about George Takei's life and career, in which Brad's role as husband, manager, and creative partner is presented as central to Takei's public life and activism. Their marriage and public partnership have made them one of the most visible same-sex couples in American entertainment.
