Amandla Stenberg is an American actress and activist who rose to prominence as Rue in The Hunger Games (2012) and has since starred in Everything, Everything (2017), The Hate U Give (2018), Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), and led the Star Wars series The Acolyte (2024). In 2016, at age seventeen, they came out as bisexual in a Teen Vogue interview, and have since identified as nonbinary, using they/them pronouns. Stenberg has been one of the most vocal and articulate young advocates for intersectional LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, and gender liberation in contemporary pop culture, and has used their platform consistently to amplify queer and trans voices of color, speaking out across social media and in essays with clarity and urgency.
