Amanda Bearse

Amanda Bearse is an American actress known for playing the perpetually horrified neighbor Marcy Rhoades D'Arcy on Married... with Children (1987), one of the most successful sitcoms in television history. In 1993, while the show was still on air, she came out as lesbian in an interview with The Advocate — making her one of the first major US television stars to come out while actively working on a hit series. She later became a prolific TV director, helming dozens of episodes of Married... with Children and going on to direct for other series. She has a daughter she adopted and has been a consistent advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility in entertainment, speaking at events and participating in Pride activities throughout her career.
