Alexandra Hedison is an American photographer and former actor who is openly lesbian, known for her work in fine-art photography and her presence within contemporary queer culture. The daughter of actor David Hedison, she began her career with television and film roles in the 1990s before shifting her focus to visual art in the early 2000s. As a photographer, she has developed a distinctive practice centered on landscape, architecture, and abstraction, with series such as (Re)Building and Ithaka exploring themes of memory, transition, and the relationship between physical space and inner experience. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States and Europe, and is held in both public and private collections. Hedison became a visible LGBTQ+ figure in the early 2000s through her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, and later through her marriage to actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster in 2014. In addition to photography, she has directed film work, including the documentary short "ALOK" (2024), further extending her interdisciplinary career. Today, Hedison is regarded as a respected contemporary artist whose work and public presence contribute to ongoing conversations about identity, perception, and queer visibility in visual culture.
