Albertina Carri is an Argentine lesbian filmmaker considered one of the most important directors in contemporary Latin American cinema. She is known for Los Rubios (2003), a provocative, formally inventive documentary essay about the disappearance of her parents during Argentina's military dictatorship, which earned international recognition including Best New Director at the Las Palmas Film Festival (Canary Islands), and Las hijas del fuego (2018), an unapologetic and sexually explicit celebration of lesbian desire and solidarity. Her other films include Géminis (2005) and La rabia (2008), which further established her reputation for formally daring, politically charged work. Carri's filmmaking consistently interrogates memory, identity, and the body, and she has been openly lesbian throughout her career, making her one of the most visible queer women directors working in Latin America today.
